Education

Jiangxi is home to a great number of colleges and universities, such as Jiangxi Normal University, Nanchang University, Jiangxi Medical College, Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics, Jiangxi Agriculture University and so forth.

There are 11,633 primary schools, 2,116 junior middle schools, 1,001 high schools (including vocational schools) and 96 universities and colleges.

Nanchang University

Nanchang University is a national university situated in central China in Jiangxi province in the Provincial capital of Nanchang which is south of the Yangtze River. Jiangxi is famous as the home of porcelain (china). Nanchang university has it origins way back in 1921 with the beginning of the Jiangxi Public Medical School it furthered evolved in 1940 under the National Chung-cheng University and later on in it's development Nanchang University was amalgamation of Jiangxi University and Jiangxi Industrial University into Nanchang university in 1993, in 2005 the Jiangxi Medical college merged with Nanchang university and so in the 21st century Nanchang university is continuing the tradition of tertiary education which it began way back in 1921. In 1997 Nanchang University was listed as one of the Top Key 100 hundred national universities of the 2011 Project which is a joint co-operation development project between the People's government of Jiangxi province and the central ministry of Education of the Chinese central government.

NCU has a total faculty of 4638, among which 1556(occupies approximately 45.68%) are professors and associate professors, 853 (approximately 25.58%)have Ph. D degrees, 2105(approximately 70.7%) have master or above degrees, 214 are part-time doctors of high-level domestic and overseas universities or research institutions. NCU currently has 4 Dual-Employed Academicians, 1 foreign academician, 2 recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 5 members of Yangtze Scholars Scheme, 1 member of Discipline Evaluation Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, 5 National Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions, 1 outstanding expert selected by Ministry of Health, 1 National Prominent Teacher, 2 winners of Bethune Award, 7 members of first and second level of the National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talents Project, 3 persons listed in the National Thousand Talents Project, 8 members of New Century Excellent Talents Support Project, 5 exclusively employed members of Jinggang Scholars Project, 88 recipients of special allowances provided by State Council and provincial government.

NCU adheres to the concept of depending on talents cultivation, integrating education and research, absorbing all resources and pursuing the supreme good to promote practice. It sticks to the education philosophy of admiration of morality and competence and integration of knowledge and practice. NCU has formed an initial diversified talents cultivation system which is based on promoting quality education and all-round development of students, seeking a cultivation mode of pioneering, innovative talents with cross-disciplinary backgrounds. NCU boasts 11,573 postgraduates of all kinds and 67,503 full-time undergraduate and 3-year students (with the main campus accommodating 37,328 undergraduates). NCU is among the first universities of College Innovation Experiments Project and the first experimental universities of Excellent Engineers Cultivation Project.

NCU earnestly promotes international exchange and cooperation. It has maintained stable exchanges and cooperative relationships with about 60 universities and institutions in over 30 countries and regions. The Confucius Institute constructed by NCU was selected as excellent institute by Confucius Institute Headquarters for three consecutive years. NCU plays leading role in promoting regional culture and has made great efforts to push forward brand-culture construction and innovation. NCU has established art associations like Nanchang Philharmonic Orchestra and Jiangxi Opera Art Research Center. NCU was contracted to hold the 29th International Music Education Conference and creatively developed campus cultural series with Qianhu cultural brand as the main part.

Jinggangshan University

Jinggangshan University is a full-time integrated university for regular bachelor-level education, favored with joint key support by both Education Ministry and Jiangxi Provincial Government of China as well as partner assistance by famous Tongji University of China in Shanghai. The University is located at the foot of Mount Jinggangshan_the famous cradle of Chinese Revolution, and in the downtown of Jian Municipality, Jiangxi Province. Jiangxi Province, located at the southern bank of middle and lower reaches of Yangtse River in southeastern China, has a total land area of 1669000 square kilometers, 11 municipalities including districts and counties, and a population of 41.4 million. Jiangxi has a galaxy of talents arising from the ancient times, named after the old saying Fruitful Nature, in this God Heaven; Intelligent Individuals, on this Divine Land. More and more domestic and overseas guests and businessmen, attracted by its location advantage, natural resources and investment environment, are investing here so far. In 2007, Ji'an Municipality signed sister cities with Solano County of California, USA, and started cooperation and exchange in education, economy and health.

Jinggangshan University's construction and development owes much to tender care from the Party and State leaders as well as great support from all fields of the society. China's former vice-president Zheng Qinghong made several-time work inspections and required the university staff to construct a distinctive regional high-level university. Education ministers and deputy ministers at different term of office came here routinely for work guidance.

The University covers an area of 2553 mu with 4 campuses, of which the main campus accounts for 2400 mu and building area for 539,000 square meters. The university has a total value of over 1 billion teaching and scientific research devices and a collection of 1,400,000 library books. There are over 17000 full-time students including 12000 bachelor-level students from China's 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, over 200 international students and 12000 Chinese adult-education students of all levels.

The University employs over 1400 staff members, of whom over 990 are professional teachers including 129 professors and 345 associate professors, 120 are doctors and 470 masters. One teacher is elected member of Management Academic Division of the Sixth Education Ministerial Science and Technology Committee, one of Nation-level Hundred-Thousand-Ten thousand Talents Project for New Century, two of Education Ministry Excellent Talents Program for New Century, and 13 of Jiangxi Province-level Hundred-Thousand-Ten thousand Talents Project for New Century, 3 provincial university young and mid-aged academic pacemakers and 31 provincial university backbone teachers.

The University consists of 15 colleges: Politics and Law College, Humanities College, Foreign Language College, Business College, Math and Physics College, Engineering College, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering College, Life Science College, Information and Media College, Education College, Medical College, Nursing College, Arts College, Physical Education College and National Defense College. There are 58 undergraduate majors covering 10 discipline fields: economics, law, pedagogy, literature, history, natural science, engineering, agronomy, medicine and administration.
